Reply to al gato malo on "accusations of electoral fraud"
More technology isn't the right answer to a humanitarian problem
el gato malo wrote an article on “accusations of electoral fraud” where he offers a solution to conduct “free and fair” elections.
In theory it’s a great solution.
Let’s take a few steps back. One of the important tenets of “Thought Lab”, is making sure we are working on the right problem.
The problem isn’t that elections are no longer “free and fair”, the problem is that they have become too big to remain “free and fair”.
We really need to stop and address the “size” problem.
Wherever you see a monopoly, whether it be corporate or technological, the outcome will always end up being the same. It will invariably result in an autocracy.
Rather than offer solutions that strengthen monopolies we need to build solutions that purposely destroy monopolies and prevent them from thriving.
We need smaller governments, companies, cities etc…
The Comment
Here is the comment I left on the article. (It is buried deep down so no one will see it there):
> and that’s it. it’s literally that easy.
It addresses the wrong problem. It encourages people to be complacent.
We need a solution that will rebuild communities. Especially trust within communities.
More technology isn't the answer.
Monopolistic solutions won't achieve what you think they will achieve. In theory they work great. In practice they lead to autocracy.
Let's rebuild small autonomous, self-serving and self-supporting communities.
Decentralization is key.
I love how you think, Kalev.
Nicely done.
